Privacy Policy — JYOT

JYOT ("the App") is a Jyotish astrology guidance application developed by an independent developer. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using JYOT, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information you voluntarily provide to personalise your astrological readings:

• Name — used to personalise responses within the app
• Date of Birth — used to calculate your Vedic birth chart
• Time of Birth — used to determine your Ascendant (Lagna)
• Place of Birth (PIN code) — used to derive geographic coordinates for accurate chart calculations
• Gender — used to personalise astrological interpretations
• Relationship details — only if you use the couple compatibility feature, and only as provided by you

We do not collect your precise GPS location. The PIN code you enter is converted to approximate latitude/longitude coordinates on-device for chart calculations only.

2. How Your Data Is Stored

• All profile data (name, date of birth, time of birth, PIN code) is stored locally on your device using Android SharedPreferences.
• This data is never uploaded to our servers.
• Your chat history with JYOT is also stored locally on your device only.
• You can delete all stored data at any time via Settings → Reset All Data.

3. How Your Data Is Used

Your birth details are used exclusively to:

• Generate personalised Vedic astrology readings within the app
• Calculate planetary positions, Dasha periods, and Muhurta timings
• Provide contextual responses via the JYOT chat interface

To generate responses, your birth details and chat messages are sent to Google's Gemini API as part of the prompt. Google processes this data in accordance with their Privacy Policy. We use context caching to minimise the frequency of data transmission.

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• Google Gemini API — powers the AI chat and daily readings. Google Privacy Policy
• Google AdMob — serves rewarded video advertisements to free users. AdMob may use device identifiers to serve personalised ads. Google Privacy Policy
• Google Play Billing — handles subscription purchases (Astral Pass). We do not store your payment information. Google Payments Privacy Notice

5. Advertising

Free users of JYOT see rewarded video advertisements served by Google AdMob. These ads may be personalised based on your device's advertising ID. You can opt out of personalised ads at any time through your Android device settings: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation.

6. Children's Privacy

JYOT is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you are in full control of your data at all times.

• To delete your profile data: Settings → Reset All Data
• To delete all app data: Uninstall the app from your device
• Uninstalling the app permanently removes all locally stored information

8. Data Security

We take reasonable precautions to protect your information. Your birth details remain on your device. API communications with Google Gemini use HTTPS encryption. Your API keys are stored securely and not exposed in our source code.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the data stored about you (visible in your profile within the app)
• Delete your data at any time via Settings → Reset All Data
• Opt out of personalised advertising via Android device settings

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

11. Contact Us

To delete all your data: Open JYOT → Settings → Reset All Data. This permanently deletes all stored information from your device. Alternatively uninstalling the app removes all data completely.
